Book of Beasties in the running for This Can Happen Award

A children’s mental wellness game has been shortlisted for ‘Most Innovative Idea to Improve Mental Health’ for the This Can Happen Awards.

Book of Beasties is a psychologist endorsed, mental wellness resource for children and young people that aspires to raise emotional literacy, teach empathy, resilience and normalise the open conversation about mental health.

The game is up against some tough competition including Sir Robert McAlpine, YuLife Insurance and Fika, an emotional fitness app.

This Can Happen Awards and conference, which launched last year and saw Prince William take the stand to speak about his experiences and organisation Heads Together, returns again next month with another prestigious line up of speakers and shortlisted companies.

Included on the roster are representatives from Disney, John Lewis, Mental Health Works and Warner Bros and headlined by winner of 2015 Great British Bake off Nadiya Hussain, who was praised for her BBC1 documentary Anxiety and Me.

Director and co-developer of Book of Beasties, Phil Tottman said: “This recognition is absolutely fantastic, we are so excited to be sat up next to some amazing competition. Mental Health is such an important subject to be bringing into the limelight for children and adults, and the This Can Happen organisation is making amazingly positive waves in this arena. We are honoured to be recognised.”

Judges for the This Can Happen Awards were hugely positive about Book of Beasties, commenting: “Influencing the younger generation is the key to changing societal culture around mental health…

“What a phenomenal initiative that breaks down barriers to opening up, it is interactive and engaging and highly impactful – Very well done team!”

Book of Beasties was also recently recognised at the Healthcare Estates IHEEM Awards in Manchester. The team was presented with a Highly Commended award in the Product Innovation of the Year category.
