Fairtrade Foundation asks pupils to share their vision of the world they want to see

From this week until 7 March, Fairtrade Foundation is offering a package of creative, free teaching resources for Fairtrade Fortnight, suitable for learning at home or in the classroom.
‘How do you make a life as a farmer when everything around you is changing?’ That’s the question the Fairtrade Foundation is asking young people to consider.
Despite contributing the least to the climate crisis, farmers in the global south feel its effects the hardest. Floods, droughts, cyclones, erratic rainfall patterns and extreme heat continue to destroy crops and livelihoods.
This Fairtrade Fortnight is a chance to celebrate the people who grow our food and drink, and to explore the topic of ‘Climate, Fairtrade and You’.
The Fairtrade Foundation’s message to school pupils is this: ‘You have the power to make a difference. If you could choose the world you want, what would it look like?’
During Fairtrade Fortnight, young people will discover how their choices can make a difference to the lives of people around the world and our shared planet. It will culminate in a celebration of learning, with an exhibition of creative pieces sharing young people’s visions of the world they want to see.
Joanna Millis, education campaigns manager at the Fairtrade Foundation said: “Our choices are powerful. Their effects can reach far beyond us and can help us shape the world we want.
“Here at Fairtrade, we hope the young people taking part in the activities and the celebration we’ve prepared see the link between what they’re learning about climate and the wider Fairtrade movement. We also hope young people begin to see how the daily decisions they make about what to eat, drink and wear affect the lives of people around the world – and the health of our planet.”
