National ARC Award recognises outstanding support of children who are looked after

St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School has been officially presented with the Alex Timpson ARC Award. It recognises the school’s long-standing commitment to supporting, guiding and inspiring children who are looked after.

St Cuthbert’s won the award late last year. However, the formal presentation took place only recently at the national conference in Birmingham. It was nominated by the Virtual School. Praising the depth of care that sits at the heart of St Cuthbert’s work, the Virtual School’s submission said:

“St Cuthbert’s is a beacon for the community. Its values are inspiring, and staff continuously show a commitment to the whole community. Its reputation is renowned with local authority officers, social workers (both in and outside of St Helens) and most importantly, with children and their families. St Cuthbert’s were trauma informed before the phrase became common place. It is just what it does, and it is an example to others.”

Reflecting on the award headteacher, Mr Holland said:

“We are a school who does everything within its power to enable every single one of our children to live life in all its fulness regardless of circumstance. At St Cuthbert’s, we commit ourselves fully to give all of our children, particularly the most vulnerable, the tools to be bold and courageous in understanding their immense worth, a worth that we recognise them to have every day. I am grateful to our staff who work tirelessly in the best interests of our children, and to our parents and carers who support us. It is wonderful to have been recognised with the ARC Award.”

As a new year approaches, the award stands as a reminder of the school’s mission and the strength of its community. The spring term brings its own important milestones, including Year 11 mock exams and the run-up to the summer series. St Cuthbert’s looks forward to continuing to walk alongside its young people. It aims to help students grow in confidence, courage and hope as they prepare for the future.
