Animal Farm to take centre stage at the Playhouse

George Orwell’s world-famous fable tells the story of a revolution and its aftermath. Re-imagined by an award-winning creative team, Animal Farm is a dynamic, daring and contemporary take on a timeless story which will take place at the Playhouse from Tuesday 26 April to Saturday 30 April 2022.

Animal Farm is directed by Robert Icke, who’s version of 1984 (co-adapted and directed with Duncan Macmillan) was a smash-hit in the West End and on Broadway. This brand-new production features puppetry by Toby Olié (whose credits include War Horse, Running Wild and Goodnight Mister Tom) and is designed by four-time Olivier award-winner Bunny Christie.

Alongside the production will be a range of free educational events by The Children’s Theatre Partnership to enrich the theatregoing experience.

These include:
Adaptation Workshop
Aimed at students KS3, the 1-hour long workshop will introduce students to George Orwell’s Animal Farm. What makes a good scene? How do you turn a prose scene into dialogue? The students will explore scene writing and adaptation with assistant director, Joshua Higgott.

Puppetry Workshop
Also aimed at students KS3, the 1-hour long workshop will welcome students to the art of puppetry: How do puppets work? How are they made, and how do you bring the puppets to life? The students will get to create their own puppets and explore puppetry techniques.

Political Theatre Workshop
Aimed at students studying for GCSE and A-level, the 1-hour long workshop will explore the meaning of political theatre today: What is it? How does it work? When is it at its most effective? The students will look at developments in political theatre and the politics of playwriting from Shakespeare to the present day.

Workshops can be booked by emailing Rachel Francis at rfrancis@fiery-angel.com or calling 020 8076 9059.

Please note the production is not suitable for young children as it contains some strong language. For more information visit: www.everymanplayhouse.com/whats-on/animal-farm.
