Read Easy is calling for volunteers in LCR

Many people take reading for granted but without the ability to read, everything in life is so much more difficult. It does not just affect your ability to find employment or enjoy a good book. It can be life-changing in many ways.

One such example has been highlighted throughout the recent pandemic. The term ‘home schooling’ is one many parents and guardians have come to fear, but imagine the added challenge if the adult was not able to read or read to the level to support their children and grandchildren.

Read Easy UK helps people in this position by offering free, confidential and one to one coaching.

Liz Hopes is a volunteer with the charity to support the establishment of the service in the Liverpool City Region.

She said: “We are looking for your support to help us get the ball rolling on a brand new Read Easy Group for offering support to adults with their reading. In Liverpool itself, we know that over 10% of the adult population struggle to read which equates to an astonishing figure of almost 40,000 people who may struggle with everyday tasks.”

The life-impact of learning to read is tangible and genuinely life-changing for both Volunteers and Readers as Liz Hopes concludes: “The phrase we hear from our Readers time-and-time again is ‘life-changing. But for our Volunteers too the process of helping adults learn to read has a profound effect on their lives. If you’d like to play a key part in helping to transform the lives of adults near you, while developing existing skills and learning new ones in a supportive, fun environment, then why not get in touch!”
