St John Plessington Catholic College celebrates outstanding A-level and BTEC results

Earlier today (Thursday, 14 August), students at St John Plessington Catholic College in Bebington celebrated receiving their A-level and BTEC results.

From 8:00am, students and their families filled the school hall, eager to find out the results following two years of hard work and dedication. Staff were also on hand to offer their congratulations, as well as expertise to students who had questions about their results and next steps.

St John Plessington Catholic College, which is part of Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust, reported that provisional data shows significant improvement in the progress that students achieve at Key Stage 5, which continues to improve year on year.

Ninety-one per cent of students have been successful in securing their first-choice university course, compared to 82% nationally.

Sixty per cent of A-level grades this year were A*–C, while 95% were A*–E. The school also achieved a 100% pass rate in its vocational subjects, with 70.7% of grades at Distinction* or Distinction, and 100% securing Merit and above.

There were many indivdual successes

Isobel Barlow achieved a Distinction* in media studies, an A in sociology and a B in art and design. Isobel is going to study animation at Edge Hill University.

Peter Nielsen-Scott secured A*, A, A in maths, biology and physics, respectively. Peter has gained the entry criteria to study mechanical engineering at the University of Liverpool, but may seek a degree apprenticeship in this field or something similar.

Peter said: “I am very pleased with the results and I am looking forward to starting my university course. Thank you to my teachers for all of their support. I couldn’t have done it without you.”

Thomas Marshall achieved A, B, B in maths, geography and physics, respectively. Thomas will be heading to the University of Liverpool to study mechanical engineering.

Thomas commented: “I am thrilled with my results and I am so excited for the next stage of my journey at the University of Liverpool.”

Sinead Walsh received a Distinction in health and social care, a Distinction in media studies and a C in sociology. Sinead plans to study criminology at Edge Hill University.

Jacob Fox-Thomas achieved a Distinction* in business studies, a B in history and a C in maths. Jacob is going to study business at the University of Liverpool.

Sophie Smith secured a B in English and a B in history, as well as a Distinction* in business studies. Sophie will go on to study history at the University of Liverpool.

Thomas Greaves achieved Distinctions across all his subjects: information technology, business studies and science. Thomas has secured himself an apprenticeship and will be continuing his learning in the workplace.

Guiliana Frigo received A*, B, C in art, history and maths, respectively. Guiliana plans to study architecture at UCL.

Staff praised the students on their achievements

Senior assistant headteacher and director of sixth form, Mrs Alison Lock, said: “It has been a delight to welcome our sixth form students back to school this morning for one last time and celebrate their brilliant results. I am incredibly proud of all they have achieved, and they should be too.

“Today’s results are testament to the commitment students have shown towards their studies over the past two years and I am delighted that they’re now able to reap the rewards of their hard work. Well done, class of 2025!”

Our students have lived our values of pride and determination since starting sixth form in 2023, and it has been fantastic to celebrate their fantastic outcomes this morning.
