A new BBC Radio 5 Live podcast hands the microphone to teachers

A new podcast created and hosted by Greg James and Bella Mackie for BBC Radio 5 Live, Teach Me A Lesson will hand the microphone over to a different teacher every week. Together, they’ll uncover fascinating facts on subjects you might not have learned about in school.

Each episode, Greg James and Bella Mackie will receive an informal lesson from one of the country’s finest educators on a subject they’re truly passionate about. With different topics every week, they’ll be treated to compelling classes on subjects such as: ‘Why do we get ill?’, ‘Are people born evil?’ and ‘How to win an argument by watching RuPaul’s Drag Race’.

Starting Monday 8 February on BBC Sounds, Teach Me A Lesson will not only consist of weekly deep-dives into different fascinating fields and subjects, it will also turn a spotlight on the amazing communicators who motivate and inspire children across the country.

Whilst the ‘lessons’ will be fascinating and full of sharable facts, the 40-minute podcasts are anything but lectures. Inquisitive, ready to learn and competitive to a fault, husband-and-wife duo Greg and Bella will put questions to the teachers, find out a little about them and inject some humour along the way.

Greg and Bella said: “We don’t think we’re alone in finding learning more interesting and rewarding as adults. This made us feel that maybe we could have made more of an effort in the classroom! So with that in mind, we wondered if we could right those wrongs and try again. Some brilliant teachers have stepped up and given their time to teach us new things. We’ve had so much fun making this podcast, as well as learning a lot and we hope the listeners love it as much as we do.”

Teach Me A Lesson will offer listeners the chance to learn something new every week. Expect inspiring teachers, captivating subjects and an insight into what Bella and Greg were like at school.
