A bridge to success

Natalie Menagh became headteacher of Alt Bridge School in September 2019. Alt Bridge is a secondary special school for 11-16 year olds. There is also a post-16 vocational centre for students with SEND aged 16-19 managed by Alt Bridge School.

Natalie has previously worked in other specialist settings and mainstream schools as a SENCo and senior leader. She has spoken widely at local and national events on various topics related to safeguarding, inclusion and SEND provision. She has specialist knowledge of SEND and strives to be flexible and creative in her approach to enabling access to the curriculum. Her particular specialisms are in Autistic Spectrum Conditions and Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs).

Natalie has also worked as an Assessor of Inclusion Quality Mark and been Leader of SEND for the North Region with Whole School SEND (NASEN). Her belief is that SEND students deserve the highest quality of education and a range of appropriate and bespoke approaches to ensure personal success. She believes that SEND students must be recognised for their resilience and determination to achieve despite adversity.

They should be encouraged to develop a strong sense of their qualities, a positive outlook on disability and an understanding that ‘learning’ is not restricted to the structures of school but is actually, a lifelong pursuit.
