A haul of awards from the Wirral Festival!

Performers from St Julie’s Catholic High School in Woolton have relished the challenge of returning to competitive performance at the 2022 Wirral Festival of Music, Speech and Drama.

The competition, hosted at Birkenhead Academy, saw first in class wins across a number of performing categories including victories for the St Julie’s Choir, the rock band ‘Insomnia’, featuring students in Years 8 and 9, under-15 singer Ella in the popular vocal category, and singer/songwriter April who earned a win performing her own song ‘London Town’.

Jo Walls, head of performing arts, said: “We’ve all had to radically change the way we engage in performing arts in recent years, and even with the difficulties that the new working methods have presented I believe that the arts have been a lifeline to many students who were struggling through lockdowns.

“We’re very grateful to the Wirral Festival for giving our students the chance to re-enter the world of competitive live performance, and to come away from such a prestigious festival with so many wins is both heartening and rewarding.”

Headteacher, Tim Alderman, said: “These winning performances represent a huge achievement for the individual performers and the school as a whole. The number and diversity of awards won reflects not only the huge talent of our students but also the tireless work that has been carried out in preparation, by both students and staff.”
