Local youngster wins global maths competition

Twelve-year-old Jithya Krithika Kotte from North Liverpool Academy has been named a Level 9 winner in the eighth International Annual Maths Olympiad, hosted by the British Youth International College (BYITC).

Jithya’s standout performance placed her among just eleven global winners. She earned the prestigious title of International Maths Olympiad Champion for the second year running.

Her parents, Bhaskar and Srisha, praised BYITC’s impact:

“BYITC doesn’t just prepare kids for Olympiads – they prepare them for life! My child now approaches every problem with logic, patience, and confidence. That’s the true success of BYITC’s teaching.” 

BYITC’s Abacus Maths Challenge attracts thousands worldwide

Thousands of students from all over the world took part in the week-long free-to-enter challenge. It is aimed at students aged four to 14.

The first-of-its-kind online challenge is based on BYITC’s pioneering Abacus Maths programme. There are 50 questions in total to be answered within one hour. Its results are based on accuracy and timely completion. Youngsters log into BYITC’s Zoom platform and take level-appropriate exams in front of invigilators.

Students used concepts like finger, abacus, and mental theory. The top performers across each of eleven levels of BYITC Supermaths training were awarded certificates and prizes for their impressive arithmetic skills.

Building future-ready thinkers through maths and logic

Dr Rashmi Mantri, founder of BYITC, congratulated all participants and highlighted the importance of such competitions in developing logical thinking and preparing students for a future shaped by AI.

Dr Mantri said: “Congratulations to each of the winners. Every child who took part deserves enormous credit as we can tell they gave it their best shot and worked very hard.

“Since we launched the Challenge, we have had more than 100 winners which is a great achievement. The success of our Olympiads and others, such as the Scottish Maths Challenge, reflect the educational value of such kinds of Olympiads, while the sheer scale of entries from across the globe is very satisfying and give us confidence that there is a huge hunger out there for learning more about, and getting lots of fun from, playing with, numbers.

“As we know from research, such high-level game playing promotes healthy competition, significantly boosts logical thinking skills, an excellent preparation from a future which is going to be dominated by AI.”
