Maghull school children lead the way in community clean-up effort
Over 100 pupils and students in Sefton, Liverpool came together on Thursday, 3 July for a community litter pick.
Hailing from primary and secondary schools in Maghull, Lydiate, Melling and Aintree, the litter pick was an inspiring show of unity and pride from the young people in the area.
Dreamt up by the children themselves and led by the student councils at MADCOS (Maghull and District Cluster of Schools), the event was their response to the anti-social behaviour at Maghull Cricket Club earlier this year. It also formed part of the children’s ongoing efforts to leave a positive ‘social signature’ on the community.
Students litter-picked their way to Maghull Cricket Club, cleaning up areas along the Leeds to Liverpool canal. Their efforts were warmly supported by Cllr. Chloe Parker of Maghull Town Council, and fellow councillors who joined the litter pick.
Mr Kay, headteacher of Maghull High School, said: “We’re so proud of our young people. Today was about action – not just words. Our students came together to support their town and demonstrate their deep sense of community.
“Our school councils illustrate what an impact young people can have on their school and wider community. We’re teaching our young people about social signatures – the mark one leaves on the lives of others, the community, and the world. And they’ve definitely left a positive impact on our local environment this afternoon.”
Leader of Maghull Town Council, Cllr Chloe Parker, thanked the children for their efforts. She also told them of her desire to create a Maghull youth council.
With strong participation, positive energy, and a shared commitment to making a difference, MADCOS is already looking ahead to more community events in the next academic year.
