Our Lady Queen of Peace Celebrate Positive GCSE and Vocational Results
Year 11 students at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic College in Skelmersdale were celebrating as they received their GCSE and vocational results this morning [Thursday, 21 August].
School Achievements Continue to Rise
The secondary school on Glenburn Road has continued to build on its success this year with improvements in student outcomes. Highlights of this year’s achievements include:
- A rise in the number of students achieving grades 9–5 in both English and mathematics, reflecting the school’s commitment to academic outcomes.
- Seven exceptional students securing grade 9s in religious education, alongside many others achieving clusters of grade 9s across subjects including English, geography, maths, biology, history and photography.
- Outstanding results in separate sciences, with 89 per cent of students achieving grades 9–4 in biology, chemistry and physics.
- Excellent vocational outcomes, with 40 per cent of students achieving the top grades of Distinction or Distinction* in sports studies, and 83 per cent securing a Level 2 Pass or higher in health & social care.
Celebrating Hard Work and Determination
These results highlight the hard work, determination, and ambition of both students and staff, and the school is proud to celebrate the success of its learners as they move forward to the next stage of their education.
Students were full of pride as they opened their envelopes, sharing smiles, cheers and relief with friends. Staff joined in the celebrations, offering congratulations and advice, while many students marked the occasion as a fond farewell to their time at Our Lady Queen of Peace.
Top Achievers
The highest-performing student was Olivia Fairclough, who achieved an outstanding set of 10 GCSEs, including grade 9s in RE, English language, English literature, biology and history, and top grades in maths, chemistry, physics, French and fine art. Olivia’s exceptional achievements reflect her hard work and dedication. She now looks forward to studying A-levels in modern history, law and psychology at college.
Other high-performing students included Phoenix Cross, who achieved 10 GCSEs with grades 9–7 across all subjects, including grade 9 in maths and Distinction* in sports studies. Phoenix will continue his studies at college, taking A-levels.
Joshua Peters achieved 9s in religious education and geography, surpassing all expectations, while Rafal Frankowski celebrated 11 GCSEs, including grade 9s in religious education, geography and Polish, and grades 9–7 in eight other subjects. Rafal is preparing to study civil engineering at college.
Success Across All Abilities
Congratulations also go to students who achieved beyond expectations at all levels of ability. Many displayed remarkable determination and resilience. Destinations include St John Rigby College, West Lancs College, Winstanley College, Wigan and Leigh College, and Runshaw College.

Seeing the pride on their faces as they opened their results was a wonderful reminder of what today is all about. Their hard work and determination have truly paid off, and we celebrate not only their exam success but the exciting futures that now lie ahead. I would also like to thank our dedicated staff and supportive families who have been such an important part of this journey.”
