Schools unite to leave Social Signature mark on local community
Wednesday 4 June marked the first ever gathering of school council groups from across the MADCOS cluster. Led and organised by Maghull High School, students from nearly 20 primary and secondary schools across Maghull, Lydiate and Aintree came together to meet local community leaders and partners to explore how they could contribute positively to the local area.
The event aimed to challenge negative stereotypes about young people and give students the opportunity to share what they value most about their community. Working alongside the Social Signature team, student representatives discussed ideas for collaborative projects to strengthen local connections. Suggestions ranged from canal clean-ups to fundraising sports events.
Students were joined by local councillor Chloe Parker, who shared insight into how the town council could support the student council’s community initiatives. She also invited pupils to take part in forming a youth council as part of the wider town council structure.
Also in attendance were the chair of Maghull Football Club, Ron Young, representatives from Maghull Cricket Club, and members of Merseyside Police, all supporting efforts to build strong, long-term relationships between local organisations and schools.
The collaboration marks the beginning of several planned community-led initiatives to be developed over the coming weeks.
