St Margaret’s students take their next steps after impressive GCSE and BTEC results

There were celebrations at St Margaret’s Church of England Academy today as Year 11 students arrived at the Aigburth secondary school to collect their GCSE and BTEC results.

There was a real sense of pride throughout the morning as students opened their envelopes. They reflected on their achievements and looked ahead to the opportunities that lie ahead.

Students had the opportunity to speak with teachers and senior leaders about their future plans. Staff offered guidance and support as they prepared for the next stage of their education.

As part of All Saints Multi Academy Trust, St Margaret’s Church of England Academy is committed to helping every student achieve their potential and prepare for the opportunities beyond Year 11.

Results worth celebrating

This year’s results demonstrate continued improvement across the academy. Students achieved strong results in biology, chemistry, physics and the combined science qualifications. More than 58 per cent of students obtained grades 9-5, with almost a quarter of all grades across these subjects being awarded at grades 9-7.

Languages performed particularly strongly, with 30 per cent of grades achieved at 9-7. Two-thirds of grades were 9-5 in Spanish and French.

There was further success in English and mathematics. 71 per cent of students secured a grade 4 or above in both subjects. This is an important benchmark as students move on to further education, training and employment. In mathematics, more than 23 per cent of grades were awarded at 9-7, rising to more than 30 per cent in English.

Vocational students also recorded impressive outcomes. 50 per cent of those studying BTEC engineering were awarded grades from Distinction* to Merit.

This morning marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next. Many students are now preparing to continue their education at St Margaret’s Church of England Sixth Form. They will study a range of A-level and vocational qualifications.

Individual achievements

Today’s successes include Ethan Ainger who achieved two grade 9s, six grade 8s and a grade 7.

He said:

“I’m delighted with my results and I’m pleased to stay at St Margarets because I’m really confident with the support I will receive.”

Daniel Cox, who secured three grade 9s, two grade 8s and four grade 7s, commented:

“I’m grateful to the teachers as so many have helped me and stayed behind to help me personally. I’m delighted to be studying computer science, maths, further maths and physics at St Margaret’s.”

Credo Tang achieved three grade 9s, four grade 8s and two grade 7s. Credo said:

“I would like to thank all my teachers. I’m so grateful to God that I could achieve such good grades despite joining the school so late from Malaysia last year!”

Meanwhile, Ruben Roots received four grade 9s, two grade 8s, one grade 7 and two grade 6s. Ezra Stephan-Whiteford achieved two grade 9s, four grade 8s and two grade 7s and Sam Carlson secured five grade 9s, two grade 8s and two grade 7s.

Elsewhere, students have secured places at a range of sixth forms, colleges and other post-16 destinations. Ethan Sweeney Reid secured two grade 9s, six grade 8s and a Distinction.

He commented: “My head of year helped me through a lot and supported me in my English studies. My science teachers were amazing and probably the best I had. The whole school has helped me through a lot, especially with all the revision sessions. I’m sad to leave St Margaret’s but excited to study a different combination of courses elsewhere.”

Praise for students’ hard work

Headteacher, Mr Adam Robinson, said:

“We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and everything they have achieved. It has been wonderful to see them celebrating this important milestone alongside their families and the staff who have supported them throughout their time at St Margaret’s.

“Our values of compassion, resilience and respect are at the heart of everything we do, and this year’s cohort has embodied those values throughout their time at the academy. We look forward to welcoming many back to our sixth form and wish every student the very best for the future.”
