Students Shine on GCSE Results Day at St John Plessington Catholic College
It was a morning of excitement today [Thursday, 21 August] as Year 11 students at St John Plessington Catholic College in Bebington celebrated receiving their GCSE results.
Families and friends joined students from 9am as they collected their envelopes, marking the culmination of months of hard work and dedication. Staff were on hand to congratulate students and share in the celebrations.
Strong Academic Progress
As part of Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust (HFCMAT), the college has seen continued success, with increases in the number of pupils achieving grades 9–7 and 9–5 in both English and maths. Overall, student progress has risen year on year, reflecting the school’s high standards and commitment to achievement.
Individual Success Stories
Among the standout performers:
- David Fatokun – grade 9s in biology, chemistry, English language, English literature, geography, maths, physics and religious studies, plus a grade 8 in computer science. “This shows that if you aim high, anything is possible,” said David.
- James Alford – grade 9 in chemistry; grade 8s in biology, English language, physics and religious studies; grade 7s in English language and Spanish; grade 6 in geography; grade 5 in English literature.
- Daniel Chung – grade 9s in chemistry, Mandarin, maths and religious studies; grade 8s in biology, English literature and physics; grade 7 in geography; grade 6 in English language; and a Level 2 Distinction in information technology. “It is important to believe in yourself and not compare yourself to others,” Daniel commented.
- Pietro Frigo – grade 9s in physics and religious studies; grade 8s in chemistry and maths; grade 7s in biology, geography and Portuguese; grade 6s in English language and literature; grade 5 in computer science. “I am very proud of my results and what I achieved,” he said.
Looking Ahead to Sixth Form
With results day marking the end of compulsory education, many students have already begun planning their next steps with the school’s careers advisors. Several will continue their studies at the new HFC Sixth Form College, pursuing A-levels and BTEC qualifications.
- Beth Gladwin – grade 9s in chemistry, geography and religious studies; grade 8s in English language, English literature, maths and physics; grade 7s in biology and Spanish. She will study geography, psychology and maths.
- Olivia Wainright – grade 9 in religious studies; grade 8 in English language; grade 7s in English literature and history; grade 6 in maths and Spanish; 7–6 in combined science; Level 2 Distinction in PE. Olivia will study biology, PE and psychology.
- Mya Dutton – grade 9 in English language; grade 8s in chemistry, Mandarin and maths; grade 7s in biology, geography, physics and religious studies; grade 6 in English literature. She will study physics, maths and Mandarin.
- Jack Sharp – grade 8s in biology, English literature, maths and physics; grade 7s in chemistry, English language, geography, religious studies and Spanish. Jack will study English, physics and maths, with plans to pursue engineering at university.

Headteacher Mr Peadar McLoughlin said: “I always feel hugely privileged to witness the sheer joy on students’ faces as they open their GCSE results, and today was no different.
“It has been a delight to celebrate our class of 2025’s achievements. Their results are a testament to the resilience they have shown and the unwavering support they have received from their families and our staff. I am extremely proud of all students who have received their results today and look forward to welcoming many of them back in September. Well done Year 11!”
