The Academy of St Francis of Assisi celebrate remarkable GCSE and BTEC results

Today (22 August), Year 11 students from The Academy of St Francis of Assisi returned to the Kensington-based school to collect their GCSE and BTEC results.

The atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement as students celebrated their achievements with friends, family, and teachers.

The academy, which is part of All Saints Multi Academy Trust, saw significant improvements in attainment levels for English, history and religious studies. Four students achieved grade 9s in mathematics and three students gained grade 9s in Spanish.

Many students will go on to study A-level and BTEC courses, with some heading to All Saints Sixth Form College in Garston or St Margarets Church of England Sixth Form, which are also part of All Saints Multi Academy Trust. Others have chosen to explore alternative pathways including apprenticeship opportunities.

Abdulrahman Al Masherhari achieved grade 9s in maths, physics, chemistry, religious studies, Arabic, history and English language, plus two grade 8s. He is going on to study maths and sciences at a local sixth form.

Abdulrahman said: “I am delighted to have achieved seven grade 9s and I am looking forward to starting A-level courses in physics and maths.”

Chance Mokelo, who is head girl at the academy, achieved a fantastic set of results including six grade 8s, one grade 7 and two grade 6s.

Bryan Choi achieved 10 GCSEs including grade 9s in Chinese and mathematics.

Zaid Dayh gained 10 GCSEs including two grade 9s in Arabic and chemistry, three grade 8s, and four grade 7s.

Jeomari Mitchell achieved nine GCSEs including one grade 9, five grade 8s, and a distinction in construction.

Fellow student, Ahmed Elyas did exceptionally well in science achieving two grade 9s, alongside a 9 in mathematics.

Melissa Mircioiu secured nine GCSEs including grade 9s in religious studies and English literature, and two grade 8s in English language and history.

This year’s results showcase not only the academic achievements of students but also the vibrant community spirit that defines the academy. For over 65 per cent of its students, English is not their first language, and many have undertaken additional GCSEs in their native languages, demonstrating their dedication and versatility.

  • Rebeca Sampaio and Natalia Freitas both gained a grade 9 in Portuguese and Spanish.
  • Denis-Raul Ciuca received a grade 9 in Spanish.
  • Zayd Dayh and Raed Basaad obtained grade 9s in Arabic.
  • Diego Trupia achieved a grade 9 in Italian.
  • Tawhed Shoresh gained a grade 8 in Persian.

Ms Jo Leech, headteacher of The Academy of St Francis of Assisi, said: “Our class of 2024 has achieved remarkable things, and their hard work and commitment have truly shone through. They should be very proud of themselves. While we will miss them dearly, we are excited for the new adventures that await them.

“As an academy, we look forward to building on this success and continuing to provide an enriching and supportive environment for all our students.”
