Regional roundup: A-level, BTEC, T-level and vocational students celebrate success

Today [13 August 2026], students across the Liverpool City Region are celebrating their A-level, BTEC, T-level and vocational qualification results. Sixth forms and colleges have reported strong results, with teachers praising the commitment and determination that helped students achieve their success. Students have secured places at universities, apprenticeships and employment opportunities across the region.

Liverpool

In the heart of Liverpool, Cardinal Heenan Sixth Form celebrated another outstanding year of A-level success.

Among the high achievers was Evan, who secured an A* in maths, As in further maths and chemistry, and a B in physics. He is now preparing to study mechanical engineering at the University of Liverpool.

Fellow student Casper has earned a place to study biology at the University of Oxford this September, while Jesse will begin a prestigious apprenticeship with BDO. Having first discovered the opportunity through a school trip, Jesse worked tirelessly to secure the position.

At St Margaret’s Church of England Sixth Form in Aigburth, students celebrated impressive A-level and BTEC results. Almost 40 per cent of students achieved A* to B grades, or equivalent, in A-level and technical qualifications. All students studying the double award engineering qualification secured Distinction* to Merit grades.

Among those celebrating was Oliver Dadswell, who achieved three A*s in biology, chemistry and maths and will study actuarial science with maths at the University of Manchester.

In Croxteth, St John Bosco Arts College Sixth Form students celebrated another successful year of A-level and BTEC results. The sixth form reported continued improvement in A-level outcomes, with 72 per cent of grades awarded at A* to C, while applied general students achieved an average grade of Merit+ and a 100 per cent pass rate across all subjects.

Students are now progressing to a range of exciting destinations, including university, apprenticeships and employment. Among those celebrating was Alannah, who achieved A*, Distinction*, C in criminology, law and English and will study criminology at Liverpool Hope University.

Other notable successes included Yuan, who achieved Distinctions in applied biology, applied science and sport and is preparing to begin an apprenticeship with the NHS, while Lena secured a place at Liverpool John Moores University to study forensic psychology.

Elsewhere in Liverpool

At All Saints Sixth Form College in Garston, students achieved strong results across several subjects. Improvements were seen in English, maths, computer science, criminology, business, sport and IT. Students are progressing to a range of destinations including university, apprenticeships and employment.

Pacifique Ruhana and Roman Joseph have both secured places to study computer science at the University of Liverpool. Sahand Mohammed will study pharmacy at Liverpool John Moores University.

Sixth form students at Maghull High School also celebrated an excellent set of A-level results. Staff praised the dedication and determination shown by students throughout their studies. Students noted that it was rewarding to see their hard work recognised as they prepare to embark on the next stage of their journeys.

Notre Dame Catholic Academy Sixth Form in Everton also reported an excellent set of results. The sixth form showed improvements across A-level, applied general and technical qualifications and an overall value-added score of +0.69.

Notable successes included Maggie Maguire, who achieved A, A, B in art, criminology and English. She has decided to study law at the University of Liverpool. Jessica Stephens is progressing to Liverpool John Moores University to study psychology.

At St Francis Xavier’s Catholic Academy Sixth Form in Woolton, 62 per cent of A-level students achieved A* to C grades and 74 per cent of BTEC students secured Distinction to Merit grades. Eighty-five per cent of A-level students are progressing to university.

Zak Mainwaring achieved A*, A*, A in geography, history and religious studies. He will study law at the University of Liverpool.

Sefton

At St Mary’s College in Crosby, students and staff celebrated another year of outstanding A-level results. More than half of the Class of 2026 (52 per cent) achieved three or more passes at A*, A or B grades. 35 per cent of all passes were awarded at the highest A* and A grades. Overall, 71 per cent of grades were achieved at A*, A or B, and almost a fifth of candidates secured three or more A* or A grades.

Among the top performers were Luke Pomeroy and Ben Bearon, who both achieved four A* grades. Luke will progress to Durham University to study geography, where Ben will be joining him to study classics. Anna Quint achieved three A* grades in English Literature, music and religious studies. She will go on to study law at the University of Manchester.

St Mary’s College principal Mike Kennedy praised students’ hard work, resilience and positivity, describing the results as the strongest set of A-level outcomes the college has achieved since 2021. He also paid tribute to staff and families for the support they have provided throughout students’ studies.

Wirral

At St Mary’s Catholic College Sixth Form in Wallasey reported vocational outcomes half a grade higher than the national average, with students achieving an average grade of Merit+. All students secured progression to their chosen destinations.

Amaia McCrystal achieved A, B, B in religious studies, history and psychology and will attend Durham University. St Mary’s students also secured places at Edge Hill University, Liverpool John Moores University and other destinations.

Meanwhile, at St John Plessington Catholic College in Bebington, results improved again. 77 per cent of students achieved A* to C grades and 98 per cent of vocational students secured Distinction* to Merit grades.

Charlotte Williams achieved A*, A, A in sociology, English language and media studies and will study anthropology at the University of Liverpool. Other successful students secured places at Durham University, Leeds University, the University of Reading, the University of Manchester and the University of Liverpool.

St Helens

Rainford High Sixth Form once again celebrated strong results. Applied subjects achieved an indicative value-added score of +0.68, 97 per cent of BTEC qualifications graded Distinction* to Merit and 45 per cent of A-level entries awarded A* to B grades.

Standout performers included twin brothers Alistair and Henry Ballad. They are both heading to Durham University to study engineering. Freya Ashcroft from Rainford has decided to progress to the University of Birmingham to study biomedical sciences.

Looking ahead

School teachers and support staff across the region praised students’ resilience, commitment and determination. They recognised the range of opportunities now available through university, apprenticeships and employment routes.

For many students, results day marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Whether progressing to higher education, joining degree apprenticeship programmes or entering employment, students across Liverpool, Wirral and St Helens are preparing to take the next steps towards their future careers. Schools and sixth forms are celebrating not only strong academic outcomes but also the ambition, perseverance and success of this year’s cohort.
