Edge Hill University wins top marks for student experience

Edge Hill University has once again been recognised for making student satisfaction its top priority.

Fresh from outstanding results in the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS), the University has been named ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ in the Daily Mail University Guide.

Recognition for student voice

The title reflects the exceptional feedback shared by students in the NSS. Edge Hill ranked highest in the North West for learning resources, second for student voice – a measure of how effectively students are engaged and listened to – and in the top three for assessment and feedback, and learning opportunities.

Nationally, the University placed second in the UK for learning resources and fifth for student voice, marking a significant leap forward.

Alastair McCall, editor of the Daily Mail University Guide, said:

“The student experience has been at the heart of everything the University has done over a long period of time.

“The University of the Year for Student Experience 2026 title puts Edge Hill firmly on the map for any student looking to combine a top-flight university education delivered with ultra-modern facilities in an outstanding and student-friendly environment.

“Students at Edge Hill enjoy one of the very best campus environments at any university in the UK, with consistent investment creating outstanding academic, social, living and sporting facilities in stunningly attractive and green surroundings.

“And with one of the more socially-mixed student populations in mind, many of the hidden costs of higher education have been vastly reduced or eradicated as the University strives to make higher education financially viable for the widest cross-section of society.”

Student-centred approach

Students at Edge Hill are regularly consulted through initiatives such as the Student Voice Survey, with feedback directly shaping courses, facilities and support services.

The University has also been recognised for its commitment to widening participation, helping students from under-represented backgrounds access higher education and improve their life chances.

Award-winning campus

Edge Hill’s Ormskirk campus is regarded as one of the best in the UK. It has held the Green Flag award for the last 14 years, been ranked the best in the UK for accommodation for the past three years, and was named best value for money in the Global Student Living Awards 2024.

Vice-Chancellor Michael Young said:

“We’re delighted to have been recognised once again for placing the needs of our students front and centre.

“We genuinely want our students to receive an outstanding experience and this ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ title is proof.

“I’d like to thank our colleagues for their dedication and our students for actively engaging with us to shape the progress of our University.”

A growing reputation

This latest accolade strengthens Edge Hill’s reputation as one of the North West’s leading universities and a rising name on the national stage. Recent achievements include:
