Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust appoint Hans van Mourik Broekman as lay chaplain

Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust (HFCMAT) has announced that Hans van Mourik Broekman will join the Trust as lay chaplain in September 2024.

Hans, who has been at the helm of Liverpool College for the last 16 years, has worked in headship roles for over 25 years.

Across his extensive career, Hans has been committed to improving social mobility and the life chances of all students. He has worked to create a culture of learning that ensures that every young person has the potential to excel regardless of their background.

When appointing a lay chaplain, it was important for the Trust to find an individual who has experience, enthusiasm and a passion for providing rich opportunities for young people to encounter God and deepen their relationship with him.

Hans’ role as lay chaplain will see him work across all the Trust’s schools, including St John Plessington Catholic College and St Mary’s Catholic College.

As lay chaplain, Hans will provide spiritual and pastoral support and opportunities for reflection. He will oversee the development and enhancement of spiritual, liturgical and prayer life for schools.

In addition, Hans will be responsible for developing and nurturing links with schools, the Diocese, local parishes and the wider community.

Hans said: “I am very excited to join Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust as lay chaplain from September 2024.

“My goal has always been to make a real difference in the lives of young people, and I look forward to supporting students from every background and accompanying them on their spiritual and personal formation journey.

“As a practising Catholic, I am passionate about helping young people connect and flourish in faith. I am excited to embark on this new journey and join an ambitious and growing team within the Trust.”

Andy Moor, CEO of Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust, commented on the exciting appointment. He said: “We are delighted to have Hans van Mourik Broekman joining our team as lay chaplain across the Trust.

“At Holy Family, our vision is ‘Formation – Inspiration – Transformation’, so I look forward to working with Hans to build formation through our development programmes. He will also be helping shape programmes with a faith dimension across the Inspire Learning Teaching School Hub.

“Hans’ role as lay chaplain will see him work across all our schools, drawing on his previous experience working across all key stages at Liverpool College. His invaluable experience and expertise will make him a fantastic addition to our dynamic and growing team.”

The role will see Hans work across Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust’s six schools: St Mary’s Catholic College, Wallasey; St John Plessington Catholic College, Bebington; St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Oxton; St Bernard’s Catholic Primary School, Ellesmere Port; Our Lady of Pity Catholic Primary School, Greasby; and St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, Runcorn.
