Rainford High’s PE Department awarded Quality Mark

The PE Department at Rainford High is celebrating after being given a Quality Mark with Distinction by the Association for Physical Education (afPE) for ‘demonstrating outstanding commitment to improvement in physical education, school sport and physical activity’.

The school heavily prides its self on a rich and varied sports curriculum, together with an innovative extra-curricular programme.

The accessors commended Rainford High on its relevant ‘student-centred’ curriculum throughout KS3, Core KS4, KS5 which has breadth and depth. It noted that its offering is appropriate and adaptable to the needs and aspirations of all students and with an inspirational provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

In addition, afPE recognised the school’s extremely impressive success in local, regional, national competitions in a plethora of sports and activities, together with very successful examination results.

The quality of teaching was also applauded, noting that all nine PE staff and SEND PE specialists are committed to the highest quality of teaching each and every day.

Gary Makin, head of PE at Rainford High, said:  “We are all absolutely ecstatic to receive a Quality Mark with Distinction by the afPE.

“We have all worked hard to ensure the sporting provision at Rainford High is the best in the borough and by receiving such an accolade I feel that this solidifies it.”

The school will receive a certificate, an engraved plaque and will be listed on the afPE Quality Mark webpage. In addition, the association will submit a report to the Department for Education (DfE) which will include details of the successful applicants.

Testimony to this, the school has also won the Outstanding Commitment to Sport in Secondary School award three times at the Educate Awards, most recently last year.
