South Sefton College student books place at Oxford

South Sefton College are celebrating their best A-level results ever…and waving another gifted student off to Oxford University for the third year in a row.

With 99.1% of South Sefton College students achieving passes this year, there were 100% pass rates in a raft of subjects including English language, English literature media and film, as well as performing arts, sport and art & design.

There were lots of individual success stories too. Amongst them, former Litherland High School pupil, Jake Cheetham who’s fantastic results have earned him a place at Oxford to study towards a degree in maths.

Jake said: “I hadn’t thought of going to Oxford until one of my teachers mentioned that the Oxford application deadline was coming up. I just decided to give it a go and apply.

“The vice principal gave me lots of advice on my personal statement and, when I got an interview, the principal helped me prepare for the interview process.

“I’ve always been good at maths but studying at South Sefton College has made me enjoy subjects more than I did when I was at school and the staff opened my eyes to the options I have.”

Principal of South Sefton College, Dr Frank McCann, is once more proud of the achievements of the students moving on from the college this summer.

He said: “I want to extend my congratulations and thanks to a truly wonderful group of young adults who have enriched the life of the college and achieved such an excellent set of results.

“Thanks are also due to the families and teachers who have guided and supported their two years here and who will, no doubt, be enjoying celebrations taking place around the city of Liverpool and Sefton.”

“We are reminded, almost on a daily basis, how difficult it is for young people to make their way in the current uncertain climate, but these students have now established firm foundations which will propel them on their way into employment, training or higher education. We wish all the students from across the Liverpool City Region all the very best and look forward to hearing of their continuing success”.
