St Margaret’s students achieve impressive A-level and BTEC results

Students at St Margaret’s Church of England Sixth Form in Aigburth are celebrating another year of strong A-level and BTEC results today (Thursday, 14 August 2025).

The co-educational sixth form, part of St Margaret’s Church of England Academy and a member of All Saints Multi Academy Trust, has seen a notable increase in outcomes this year. Almost half of all A-level grades were awarded at A*–B, while BTEC students once again performed exceptionally well, with 95% of grades ranging from Distinction* to Merit.

The sixth form also saw particularly pleasing progress for students with additional educational needs. A number of Year 13 students whose progress was most impressive came from this group, a testament to their hard work over the two years and the high level of support they have received during their time at St Margaret’s.

Many students are now preparing to take their next steps at prestigious universities across the country or begin apprenticeships with leading employers, with some even heading overseas. Staff will be waving goodbye to future dentists, accountants, theologians, historians, engineers, economists and physiotherapists, and look forward to hearing from them as they embark on the next stage of their personal and academic journeys.

Student achievements

Among the successful students is Huseen, who achieved A, A, A in biology, chemistry and maths, respectively. He will remain in Liverpool to begin a dentistry degree at the University of Liverpool. Huseen said: “It doesn’t feel real yet. You put in all the hard work over the years, early mornings and late nights, but then to be at school this morning opening my results envelope – it just doesn’t feel real, but I’m so happy that I’ve done it and all the hard work has paid off.”

Emlyn excelled in his studies, achieving Distinction* and Distinction in a double award engineering course, paving the way for a coveted engineering apprenticeship. He said: “I’m delighted with my Distinction* and Distinction in BTEC engineering, and I’m now feeling really excited to take on the new challenge of my apprenticeship.”

Arav achieved A*, A, A, B in mathematics, further maths, chemistry and biology, respectively, and will be heading to London in September. He said: “I worked very hard for these results, but I know now it was all worth it. I’m looking forward to the next steps, which for me means studying statistics, economics and finance at University College London.”

Fellow student Stephin achieved straight A grades in biology, chemistry and psychology. He has chosen to study finance at the University of Liverpool.

Matthew secured impressive grades of A*, A, B, B in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), history, politics and religious studies, respectively. He has achieved more than enough to realise his dream of studying history and theology at the University of Birmingham.

Staff shared how proud they are

Dr Dan Silverstone, director of sixth form, said: “It’s been a real privilege to watch our students grow, both academically and personally, during their time with us. We are very proud of everything they have achieved, and we know they are ready to take on whatever comes next. Congratulations to our Class of 2025!”

Mr Adam Robinson, headteacher of St Margaret’s Church of England Academy, added: “We are delighted with this year’s results and incredibly proud of every student. These outcomes reflect more than just academic achievement – they show the compassion, resilience and respect our young people have shown throughout their time with us. They’ve grown into thoughtful, well-rounded individuals, and it’s been a privilege to watch them flourish.”

St Margaret’s Church of England Sixth Form will be open to new student enrolments on GCSE results day (Thursday, 21 August) next week. An open evening will take place on Thursday, 23 October, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, giving prospective students for 2026 the chance to meet staff, explore facilities and find out more about life at the sixth form.
