A proud milestone for St Augustine’s Year 11 students

It was a memorable morning at St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Academy today as Year 11 students returned to school for one final time to receive their GCSE and BTEC results.

Students had the opportunity to catch up with teachers and members of the senior leadership team. They shared their achievements with the people who had supported them throughout their time at the Blackbrook-based academy.

Part of St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust, St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Academy continues to build on its commitment to providing an outstanding Catholic education. The school aims to help shape students into confident young adults, ready to take their place in the world.

Dedication and hard work lead to success

Sitting in the heart of the community, the academy encourages every student to flourish academically, personally and spiritually through its vision of ‘In Faith We Grow’.

The academy’s Progress 8 score stands strong at +0.39, significantly surpassing the most recent national benchmark of -0.03.

The figures this year also reflect a notable improvement in overall attainment. The Attainment 8 score has risen by 1.88 points, reaching 44.44. This increase indicates that students are securing stronger qualifications. It further exemplifies the dedication of both staff and students to high academic standards.

One of the key highlights of this year’s results is the substantial improvement in strong-pass performance across various subjects. Increases in the number of students achieving grade 5 or higher have been seen in English, maths, and religious studies. The academy’s vocational subjects have also secured strong results, in particular health and social care, and travel and tourism.

Taking the next step

Students will now move to many exciting destinations, including local sixth forms or colleges. Others prepare to begin apprenticeships or join the world of work.

This year’s examination results also shine a light on some exceptional individual performances. Flavio has demonstrated remarkable ability. He achieved an impressive two grade 9s, five grade 8s, one grade 7, and one grade 6. He will be attending the University of Liverpool Maths School from September.

Abbie follows closely with two grade 9s, two grade 8s, four grade 7s, and one grade 6. She will be attending Carmel College to study law, psychology and English literature.

Fellow student, Lois also achieved notable results with two grade 9s, two grade 8s, four grade 7s, and one grade 5. Lois will also attend Carmel College to study sciences.

Headteacher of St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Academy, Mrs Giselle Lynch, said:

“One of the greatest joys of results day is seeing our students recognise just how much they are capable of. Today’s achievements reflect not only their commitment to learning, but also the confidence and resilience they have developed throughout their time at St Augustine’s.

“Our mission, ‘In Faith We Grow’, shapes every aspect of life at the academy. We hope our students leave us ready to embrace new opportunities, guided by aspiration, belief and compassion as they begin the next stage of their lives.”

Mr Michael Gun-Why, director of secondary education at St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust, commented:

Their achievements reflect the commitment they have shown throughout their time at the academy, supported by staff who know their students incredibly well and only want the very best for them.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Lynch as she prepares to leave the academy. She has played a huge part in the improvements at the academy and has worked tirelessly for its students and staff.”

St Augustine’s will welcome Miss Adele Quarless as its new headteacher from 1 September. She currently serves as deputy headteacher at the academy.
