Manchester Academy awarded ‘Globally Aware School’ status
Manchester Academy has been recognised as a Globally Aware School by the Global School Alliance (GSA). This recognition follows a special visit from John Rolfe MBE, community and partnerships manager.
The status celebrates the school’s growing commitment to developing confident, enquiring and globally minded young citizens.
Manchester Academy joined the Global School Alliance earlier this year. Since then, it has taken steps to embed internationalism into school life and has established a partnership with Moroccan school. Through this partnership, students are beginning to explore shared learning experiences and intercultural understanding across borders.
Mohammed Adam, family liaison officer at Manchester Academy, said: “With the support and expertise of John and the Global School Alliance team, we have successfully established a partnership between Manchester Academy and Le Sud Secondary School in Morocco. This collaboration offers our students valuable opportunities to engage in virtual exchanges, joint projects and intercultural dialogue.”
The two schools recently connected online via a MS Teams call. During the call they shared their aspirations for the partnership and outlined a timeline for upcoming projects.
John Rolfe, MBE, from the Global School Alliance, said: “It was a huge privilege to visit Manchester Academy and present their well-deserved Globally Aware School certificate. This great school is truly at the heart of its diverse and multilingual community. It has a rich and powerful commitment to embedding celebrating global awareness throughout its ethos and curriculum and always offers valuable opportunities for their students to engage in impactful global communication and collaboration.”
The Globally Aware Schools campaign was launched by the GSA to highlight and celebrate schools that embed global learning into their ethos and demonstrate a strong commitment to nurturing globally minded young people.
As a Liverpool-based organisation, the GSA is particularly proud to strengthen its work with schools across the North West.
