Rainford High community unites for Ukraine
Staff and students of Rainford High have come together to help Ukrainian families and children by holding a charity event called ‘Unite for Ukraine’.
The school encouraged its community to dig deep and give whatever they could during this difficult time. Students donated essential items such as shower gel, deodorant, sanitary products, hairbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, as well as nappies and children’s toys and books.
Year 10 development students even wrote ‘letters of hope’ for Ukrainian children in a bid to offer some words of comfort.
Students and staff supported the Disaster Emergencies Committee by purchasing Ukraine ribbons in the colour of the country’s flag. In total, the school has received cash donations of £350 and now Rainford High has matched that figure and £700 will be donated to those in need.
The ‘Unite for Ukraine’ appeal received a tremendous response from residents of Rainford village. A number of local businesses have sent large donations and Bleak Hill Primary School collected over 20 bags of donations to be sent to families in Ukraine. Bents Garden Centre kindly donated 27 teddy bears.
Helen Dack, curriculum leader of RE at Rainford High, said: “We have had an amazing response from all our students, staff and families for the Unite for Ukraine appeal, and we couldn’t be prouder.
“Our ethos of ‘Everyone Matters, Everyone Helps, Everyone Succeeds’ applies to everyone, no matter where they are in this world. A big well done and thank you to everyone who has supported our initiative.”
The humanities department at Rainford High has been working closely with Care UK, a Warrington-based charity that focuses on donations for Asylum seekers and refugees. All donations will reach families from Ukraine who are trying to resettle in the UK or through transporting it to Poland and the surrounding countries.
