Athletes shine at Olympic Legacy event!

Disabled schoolchildren from all six Merseyside school boroughs gathered at Archbishop Beck School’s Tennis Centre today for an unforgettable morning of sporting action.

The event, organised by the Liverpool Schools Sports Partnership (LSSP), brought together over 100 budding athletes to compete against each other in a number of sports including running, throwing and football.

The athletes were ranked according to ability and sports were adapted to ensure every competitor would take part.

Sports Leaders from Archbishop Beck were on hand to run each event and they supported and encouraged the athletes throughout.

Gerry Wigglesworth, Partnership Manager from LSSP, said: “It is important to hold events like this as it gives students from these schools the opportunity to come together and socialise with students from all areas of Merseyside and compete against one another.

“It gives them a great feeling of achievement for what they’ve done throughout the day and the events they’ve joined in. And if you judge success on smiling faces, then today has been a complete success.”
