Changes to teaching assistant qualifications

The awarding body Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education (CACHE) have announced that they are withdrawing the Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools (QCF) from their suite of qualifications and will not replacing it.

The news has come with disbelief to most long distance college’s and recruitment specialists alike, as the qualification bridges the gap for potential up and coming teaching assistant’s to study and gain a Level 3 qualification to assist them in applications for teaching assistant vacancies or school cover support.

Kerri Farrington from The Learning College said: “It’s a shame CACHE have made this decision, our main core students and schools choose this qualification to either enhance current practice, or for newbies to gain the essential basis of knowledge required to be able to apply for their chosen field of profession and progress”.

Other awarding bodies like Training Qualifications UK (TQUK) who boasts top 20 awarding body status, has confirmed they will be continuing to offer this qualification to support teaching assistants in their quest to achieve and realise their potential.
