Rainford High gets into the Spirit of Christmas

Students and staff at Rainford High have been busy generating Christmas cheer and care through its Spirit of Christmas event.

As Rainford High’s annual Christmas Fayre hasn’t been able to take place this year, the school has thought of new ways in which they can help local causes.

Taking place for most of the month, the Spirit of Christmas event has encouraged each year group to support local charities and groups that help vulnerable people in the community.

Year 7 have donated selection boxes and Terry’s chocolate oranges, Years 8 and 10 gave food bank donations and Years 9 and 11 have donated toiletry sets.

Rainford High is also supporting the St Helens Gift Appeal and is accepting donations of new toys or gift vouchers. These can be dropped off at school and the team will pass them onto the Gift Appeal.

Concluding the festivities will be a non-uniform day on the last day of term. The theme of the day is ‘Everything Christmassy’ and students can go all out with their outfits, from garish Christmas jumpers to reindeer antlers or Father Christmas hats.

Students can donate £1 to wear a Christmas jumper or £2 to wear non-festive attire. The money raised will be given to Willowbrook Hospice and Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Principal of Rainford High, Ian Young said: “It is a great shame that we have been unable to host our Christmas Fayre this year, but we have found a way to give back to those in need through our Spirit of Christmas event.

“It has been an incredibly challenging year for everyone and I am so grateful for everyone’s efforts. Well done!”
