Seven young people from around the world to join a live summit

On World Children’s Day, the second edition of the Young Activists Summit (#YAS20) will give young people from around the planet a platform to speak up about the world they want for tomorrow.  

The event will be held online on 20 November 2020 at 14:00 and is co-organised by the NGO dev.tv, the United Nations Office at Geneva, Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) and its GenèveVision label, and by the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. 

The summit will honour seven young activists who have made a real difference towards building a better future:  

• Vanessa Nakate 24, Climate justice, Uganda 
• Mohamad Al Jounde 19, Refugee education, Syria 
• Fiona Amony 24, Girls’ rights, Uganda 
• Alexandra Cerezo 24, Ethical & sustainable fashion, Guatemala 
• Zahraa Issa 21 & Emma Sleiman 15, Solidarity after the explosion in Beirut, Lebanon 
• Finlay Pringle 13, Marine conservation, UK 

The coronavirus crisis is a tragic and massive disrupter but it can also be an opportunity to boost sustainability, solidarity and resilience. Young people have the right to demand that the recovery plans they will fund focus on rebuilding sustainable societies that protect the interests of present and future generations.  

Under the theme ‘The world we want, time for change’, the Young Activists Summit 2020 will focus on key issues including climate change, biodiversity, human rights, gender-based violence, sustainable and ethical fashion. They will also hear from international experts on these issues, with a view to fostering an intergenerational dialogue. 

The #YAS20 live session will be streamed live on Facebook in English, French, Arabic and Spanish. It will be an engaging event intended for young people who will be able to interact with the activists.
