Milly Tinsley, a former Standish High school pupil, competed at the United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs (USAIGC) World Championships in Florida in June.

The four-day competition covers various gymnastics disciplines.

Milly, whose speciality if floor gymnastics, came away from the competition with a gold, a silver, a bronze, and a sixth place.

Milly’s coach is also a former student of the Wigan college.

Alana Rampling, a former St Peter’s Catholic High School student, competed in gymnastics in the US.

She came sixth overall in the whole world.

Alana’s category was general gymnastics.

Danni Williams, who previously attended Upholland High School, went to Birmingham last week week to compete at the commonwealth karate championships.

Danni won gold in the competition.

Louise Tipping, principal of Winstanley College, said: “We have some extremely talented sports men and women at Winstanley.

“Alana, Milly and Danni are fantastic examples of this.

“Competing in world standard events alongside college studies, requires organisation, dedication, and enthusiasm which these three stars clearly have; we are immensely proud.”
