St Nicholas football team have all-round success

Members of the football team at St Nicholas CE Primary School in Blundellsands, Liverpool, have been cheerful this month after achieving major success in a variety of events.

The team, which is drawn from Years 5 and 6 (this year it consists mostly of Year 6s) has played together since its players were in Year 3. Some of the pupils also play in teams together outside school.

Both boys and girls can join the football team, and there is also a separate girls’ football team at the school which won their own league.

The school football team has earned many achievements recently, including:

– Winners of the Bootle and District Primary Schools Football Association (BDPSFA) league

– Griffith Cup winners

– Jack Riding tournament winners

– Everton Academy football festival winners

– John Rourke Champions Cup winners

Becky Woods, headteacher at St Nicholas CE Primary, said: “We are very proud of the children. They have worked hard and achieved so highly this season.

“Sport is such an important part of life at St Nicholas and we really enjoy participating in inter-school events throughout the year. Thank you to all the organisers of the competitions and also to the staff who work so hard before, during and after school to provide these opportunities for pupils across Sefton.”
