Winstanley College – Support for World Mental Health Day

Staff and students at Winstanley College wore yellow in support for World Mental Health Day.

World Mental Health Day was an opportunity for all to raise awareness of mental health issues and advocate against social stigma.

The day provided an opportunity for the college to add to the wider conversation that will be occurring on social media, television and elsewhere and highlight the fantastic work already being done to address mental health stigma in schools, colleges and the workplace, and introduce new and targeted activities anchored to the event.

The theme of this year’s event is suicide and suicide prevention.

Every year close to 800,000 people globally take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. It’s the leading cause of death among young people aged 20-34 years in the UK and is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally.
