Eco-classroom to generate cash for school
A unique eco-classroom – the first of its type in the country – has opened at a Liverpool primary school.
Children will use the new ‘pod’ at Childwall Church of England Primary School for a series of environment related activities at the school as well as music lessons.
Pupils have recently formed a gardening club, and over the next few months will be landscaping the area around the building.
It has been designed by UK Pod Living Ltd and is clad with cedar and real oak flooring, to give a feeling of serenity.
It has received the highest possible environmental ranking for energy efficiency and has solar panels on the roof, which could generate over £1,000 of income for the school every year as it returns power back to the grid.
Canon Gary Renison, chair of governors, said: “As a school with a distinctive Christian ethos, we are delighted with the pod.
“The eco-friendly nature of the building sits squarely alongside our desire to teach the children in our care to be good stewards of God’s creation.
“As well as being a beautiful and contemporary space for us to use in a variety of ways, the pod models something fundamental about our understanding of how we should manage the earth’s finite resources.”
