My School Days with Michelle Dow, managing director at All About STEM

To celebrate the upcoming Educate Awards ceremony, we asked our sponsors to share their ‘School Days’ with Educate Magazine. Michelle Dow, managing director at All About STEM shares everything from her favourite subject to school crush…

My School: King David High School

My Favourite Teacher: Mr Cottarell

My Favourite Subject at School: Design and Technology

Were you streetwise or a bit of a geek? A bit of both really!

My Favourite Childhood Singer/Band: Bon Jovi

My Favourite Extra-Curricular Activity: I played piano

Do you remember your first school crush? No – way too busy studying (my kids might read this…)

My Favourite Book: Goodnight Mr Tom

School Dinners: Not for me!

My Ambitions at School: I wanted to be an engineer – I had a great careers teacher who encouraged me to contact companies and investigate all paths.

Favourite Educate Awards moment: The pause before announcing the winner and then the huge smiles when the award gets presented.

What do you love most about the awards ceremony?

Every year it gets better and better and I love the whole thing. I do have a soft spot for the amazing choir though, it really sets the tone for the whole evening.

As an awards judge, what has impressed you most this year?

The standard is consistently high, and judging Educate Awards is one of the hardest things I do all year. I was particularly impressed with the amount of schools going above and beyond for the students in our region. You could almost feel the community spirit and heart jumping off the pages.
