News presenter offers Alsop High valuable careers advice

ITV Granada Reports’ Gamal Fahnbulleh has offered expert journalism and media advice to students at Alsop High School as part of its ‘Creating Careers’ initiative.

The Walton school launched ‘Creating Careers’ in a bid to provide students with a wealth of information and advice about different careers. Every Wednesday a new video will be uploaded to the school’s website highlighting a local growth sector.

In the most recent video, which was recorded at the Salford Quays studio in Manchester, Gamal talked about how he first got into journalism and TV presenting. He explained that he worked at Sky News as a presenter for seven years before joining Granada Reports.

He went on to describe his style of presenting as ‘authoritative yet personable’ in order to engage viewers of the show.

Gamal also listed what skills are needed in a journalism and media role. He said: “You must write well, listen well, be empathetic and have the ability to work to tight deadlines, along with a steely determination to succeed.”

He later explained what routes students can take in order to get in the industry and touched upon his own qualifications. He completed a post graduate diploma in broadcast journalism after studying history and politics at university.
