Remembering the millions
Civic leaders joined faith leaders to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Wreaths were laid at the memorial stone in St John’s Gardens in memory of all victims of persecution. This was then followed by a special service at Liverpool Town Hall which was attended by civic and faith representatives as well as members of the local community and focussed on the national theme for this year which is ‘Journeys’. Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Gary Millar said: “Holocaust Memorial Day gives us the opportunity to remember the millions of people killed in the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. “We can honour the survivors of these regimes of hatred and challenge ourselves to use the lessons of their experiences to inform our lives today.”
