‘Rocks-Your-Socks’ campaign returns for 2025 and schools are invited to take part

Schools across Merseyside are invited to take part in ‘Rocks-Your-Socks 2025’ — a kindness-driven campaign to support people experiencing homelessness. The inspiration behind the campaign is the children’s book Kindness Rocks, where a rockstar lion’s world collides with a homeless bear.

What is Rocks-Your-Socks?

Now in its third year, Rocks-Your-Socks encourages children to come to school wearing their most joyful, rockstar-worthy socks. In addition, children are encouraged to donate a new pair of adult socks to support people experiencing homelessness.

The socks will then be donated to The Whitechapel Centre and Paper Cup Coffee. The two Liverpool organisations complete vital work with people facing homelessness and poverty.

The inspiration behind Rocks-Your-Socks

Author and campaign founder, Sheryl Webster, says the idea was inspired by the main character in Kindness Rocks. Jonny Heart, is a rockstar lion with big hair, a big smile, a big voice,  and an even bigger heart.

Sheryl said: “I wanted to create a project that brought kindness to life for children — turning the message, Kindess Rocks, into an action! In 2023, we collected over 500 pairs of socks. Last year, that more than doubled to over 1,000.

“It’s a fun, inclusive way for children to give back to their community in a way that’s meaningful and that has immediate impact.”

While the event takes place in October 2025, schools can take part on any date that suits them before this.

What schools need to do:

  1. Invite pupils to wear fun socks for the day
  2. Encourage them to bring in a new, unused pair of adult socks
  3. Have the socks ready for collection by October – so that they can be delivered by Sheryl to The Whitechapel Centre and Paper Cup Coffee, ready for distribution to those experiencing homelessness.
