Unlock Child Rights Education: Join UNICEF UK’s RRSA Award Conference 2023

The second annual online conference from UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting Schools Award (RSSA) will celebrate change for children through child rights education. 

The online conference will take place on Wednesday 5 October, World Teachers Day, from 10.00am to 4.45pm. 

The speakers include experts on children’s rights, education and campaigning. The sessions will show the difference children’s rights can make when practically applied in education across a range of contexts. 

The conference is for teachers and other staff from schools participating in the Rights Respecting Schools Award, as well as those interested in finding out more about the programme and professionals in the field of education.

Programme 

Morning Sessions: 

· 10:00 to 10:30 – Welcome with Martin Russell, programme director RRSA 

· 10:30 to 11:15 – The UNICEF global education context with Kate Cotton, senior programme specialist (Education), UNICEF UK. 

· 11:15 to 12:00 – The child rights journey in Scotland with Maxine Jolly, senior education officer, Educate Scotland. 

Afternoon Sessions: 

· 13:30 – 14:15 – Safeguarding and tackling child-on-child abuse through the framework of children’s rights with Sarah Lancaster, head of safeguarding, UNICEF UK, and Marielle Burgess from Comberton Village College. 

· 14:15 to 15:00 – Power of campaigning with Rebecca Dallison, head of campaigns and mobilisation, UNICEF UK; Kathy Allan, senior professional adviser of RRSA; plus two school campaigning case studies.

· 15:15 to 16:00 – Practitioner panel delivered by Martin Russel with senior school leaders. 

· 16:00 to 16:15 – Focus on the spotlight CDP resource with Helen Trivers, senior professional adviser, RRSA. 

· 16:15 to 16:30 – Thank you and wrap up with Martin Russell 

The conference will be run as a Microsoft Teams live event. 

Attendees can participate via live Q&A chat function, with speakers and UNICEF UK RRSA staff available on the call to respond.
