Walker Art Gallery chosen for dot-art Schools 2023 exhibition

The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool will be the venue for this year’s dot-art Schools and Edge Hill University’s 11th exhibition in spring 2023.

The ‘Prize Giving Ceremony’ which launches the show will take place in the Small Concert Room at neighbouring St Georges Hall.

With an inspiring range of winning artworks created by primary, secondary and SEND pupils across Liverpool City Region and beyond, the exhibition will offer an insight into the quality of work of young aspiring artists.

Every year, the exhibition supports schools in celebrating the creativity of children and young people in the region, building their confidence, and improving wellbeing.

Lucy Johnson, head of art gallery exhibitions at National Museums Liverpool said: “We are delighted to be showcasing the creativity of local school children through this partnership with dot-Art Schools and Edge Hill University.

“We are really looking forward to seeing the winning artworks here at the gallery. There might even be some future John Moores Painting Prize artists amongst them!”

Carolyn Murray, dot-art Schools Project Manager said: “It’s wonderful that this year’s dot-art Schools exhibition will be at the Walker Art Gallery.

“This will give the competition winners a real taste of what it means to be an artist with their artworks hanging near to some of the world greatest artists, past and present.

“It’s sure to be a magical experience.”

Dr Helen O’Keeffe, Associate Dean in the Faculty of Education at Edge Hill University said: “The Walker Art Gallery is world renowned for its incredible collection and for its educational outreach, they are the perfect hosts for this year’s exhibition.”

dot-Art Schools was established in 2012. It is an annual interactive online inter-school competition for children in Year 5 and Year 9.

The impact of the program has grown each year, with more than 10,000 young artists participating so far.

This year’s exhibition will take place from 21 June to 2 July 2023.

Schools can sign up for this year’s programme until Christmas 2022. To find out more about dot-art Schools, visit schools.dot-art.com or contact Carolyn Murray on 0345 017 6660 or Carolyn.murray@dot-art.com.
