WWI commemorative concert

Resonate Liverpool’s Music Hub took part Liverpool’s latest World War I commemorative events recently.

Organised by the First World War Commemorative Task Group, Resonate had been working with Culture Liverpool to facilitate some of the special events commemorating 100 years since the beginning of the war.

More than 600 children from primary schools across Liverpool, St Helens, Knowsley, Sefton and Wirral sang specially selected songs from the era at the Anglican Cathedral with lunchtime performances that were open to the general public.

In addition, Resonate brass ensemble supported the world renowned Grenadier Guards for a one-off special charity evening concert supporting our forces and their families. Song Merseyside, a community adult choir, also joined in with more nostalgic World War I songs during the concert.

Resonate’ string players also entertained dignitaries at a town hall ‘high tea event’ after a poignant multi-faith Drumhead Service at Exchange Flags.

Mr Jonathan Dickson, head of service at Resonate said: “I am delighted that so many of Merseyside’s young musicians were involved in these commemorative events. The students and adults have worked hard to ensure that their musical contribution was, as always, outstanding. I’m sure all those involved and those who had the chance to attend were moved by their performances and the occasion”.
