Rainford awards scholarships to future Olympic hopefuls

Rainford High has awarded its first round of sports scholarships to some of their most promising sports men and women.

Following a challenging application process, nine students have been successful in securing funding from the AJ Bell Trust and Rainford High to support their sporting aspirations.

The school hopes its new partnership with the AJ Bell Trust Awards will benefit future Olympic medallists and propel their talented sports stars on to the elite stage.

The awards are bespoke to the individual student and will be used to fund exciting opportunities across all sports and levels. It will open up opportunities to be inspired by current elite performers and support attendance at National and World events.

Ian Young, principal of Rainford High, says: “We are fortunate to have an incredible amount of talent within the school and some of our students are performing at a level that the curriculum does not support.

“We are delighted to be working with the AJ Bell Trust to give them opportunities that both inspire and support their dreams.”

Andy Bell, former pupil and founder of the AJ Bell Trust, adds: “I have been flabbergasted by the quality of sports talent at Rainford High and it is both a privilege and a pleasure to help them along their journey.”
