Remembrance Celebration Day at St Oswald’s Junior School

St Oswald’s Catholic Junior School, with the help and support of their PTFA, they held an afternoon tea party to celebrate Remembrance Day.

They invited members from the local community including veterans, parishioners, residents from local care homes, family and friends.

History Co-ordinator, Mrs Swift, said: “We held this tea party as we felt it was important to come together as a community to remember all those who had died during the First and Second world wars, as well as during more recent conflicts.

“We decided that with it being the 100th year anniversary of the beginning of World War I, that it was a very fitting and apt, act of remembrance.

“During the tea party, our choir sang wartime songs, we listened to poems and prayers that the children had written as well as more famous poems.

“The guests enjoyed a selection of sandwiches and cakes and spent time talking with the children and sharing their experiences and thoughts.

“As part of our remembrance in school, we decided to donate money to Help for Heroes, as this is a charity that helps and supports wounded soldiers and their families. We felt that our donation would help the charity to continue to offer the fantastic support to our local heroes.

“We would like to thank everyone who attended and who helped us to make this such a big success.”
